Many people use their computer every day to perform their work or leisure. Some even use the computer (and in extension, the internet) to pursue their interests and advocacies.

Everyday maintenance of the computer is necessary. However, computer maintenance should also include cleaning of the internal parts of the computer. We do not mean the hardware, but the computer software itself. The computer software makes the computer a very versatile tool for anyone who uses it. If you want your computer in tip-top shape, here are some recommendations.

  1. Get a good anti-virus program. Yes, you heard it before and you will hear it here. A good and decent anti-virus program will keep you safe from the numerous viruses out there. Many viruses are transmitted online, which makes anti-virus programs a necessity. Scan your computer and other removable data at least once a week. Do not forget to update your program to spare yourself from future headaches and frustration.
  2. Get a malware program too. Besides, anti-virus program, malware programs are also a good idea to install to your computer. This type of program is different from anti-virus programs since it searches for malwares, another type of computer nuisances. Like viruses, malwares are often transmitted using the internet, so they are necessary too.
  3. Defrag, seriously. If you work at your computer every day, chances are you are dealing with application files and many programs at once. Opening application files and programs require your computer to find the specific file to open and use that file or program. Defragmentation helps in making this search faster. In addition, another advantage is that defragmentation can increase the speed performance of your computer.  It is advisable to defrag once per week, even if you dealing with a few files and programs. Depending on your computer, you might already one installed. If you do not have one, there are many free defragmentation applications online.
  4. Declutter and erase some files. A computer is like your house, it is your decision to leave it clean or cluttered with your things. The same is applicable to your computer. Files can be made every time you use the device and sometimes, programs just take too much space without using it often. Since files and programs take up disk space, you need to erase those to regain some memory. If you cannot live without that file or program, get a removable hard drive and save it there.
