Roger Milla, Cameroon soccer star, celebrates dancing Makossa - Italia World Cup 1990International soccer star Roger Milla of Cameroon has probably done more for African soccer than any individual in this century. In both literal and figurative terms he has promoted African soccer …

Prior to the 1990 World Cup …, African participation was limited to two teams that were expected to do little more than show up.

But in June of 1990, Milla and Cameroon turned the soccer world upside down for three weeks...

ABOUT "TWENTY TEN IN AFRICA"

A Song To Celebrate The Historic Two Thousand Ten Football World Cup in South Africa

Washington DC Metro Area, (27 May 2010) - When Shakira’s remake of the song “Zangalewa” by Cameroonian 1990’s band Zangalewa was released in South Africa in April 2010, news broke about a resulting backlash.

Stories ran on international media outlets like Yahoo! stating that a noticeable number of people in the African community felt there was too rich a talent pool of African-born musicians (on the continent and abroad), for a non-African artist to announce this historic event for the continent.

Not in response to the Shakira release backlash, but just as fate would have it, the very week Shakira's release was being played on South African radio, Cameroonian-born
songwriter/producer Nkeng “Mr. Cole” Alemanji was teaming up with a group of African-born/US-based artists [including South Africa’s Mongezi Ntaka (Lucky Dube, Vusi Mahlasela), Nigerian-born songstress Bekina Za (1998 France World Cup), and Cameroonian sound programmer/arranger, Ajua “AJ” Alemanji (Yamaha, Ketron)],  to write and release a song he had written to celebrate Roger Milla, African football, and the 2010 World cup in South Africa.

The song “Twenty Ten in Africa” is driven by an electrifying African/Dance beat and moving bass vocals.

It has a catchy melody, with lyrics which celebrate African football’s most highly regarded ambassador, Roger Milla; the song announces the Twenty Ten games in South Africa (which is first time ever the World Cup is held in Africa).

The chorus of the song is: “Everybody stand up – it’s Twenty Ten in Africa / score goals dance Makossa, like Milla in Italia”…

With “Twenty Ten” bringing the soccer-loving community to their feet, getting fans from Africa, The Middle East, South America, Europe, the US, etc. excited for the 2010 World Cup games in South Africa, maybe this song strikes just the right note.

THIS PROJECT WAS KINDLY SUPPORTED BY

friends, family, supporters, friends of friends, etc. from:
Persia, Asia, Africa, South America, USA, Canada, and more...

Football (soccer) and The World Cup games, really do bring the world together.

about us:

On Dec 29th 2003, Nkeng "Mr. Cole" Alemanji (a Cameroonian-born songwriter and record producer) formed Songs From Above.

What is a song from above?
it is a song that goes out and generates money, and uses it to buy the world a little more love

We aim to:
use songs, music, and performances, to uplift the spirits of people that one would consider less fortunate: people who may be poor, sick, dying...
And then to also use songs, music, and performances to have fun, release great work (the kind of work that has longevity, and connects with people), and entertain people.

To that effect, when we arrive in any country in the world, before we perform at our paid concerts (or do any press interviews or appearances), we will perform FREE concerts for the sick or disfigured, and we will perform FREE concerts for the old, as the first order of business.

We also give a notable percentage of everything we earn in profit, to support useful causes related to kids and families, around the world.

We are not a not-for-profit. We are interested in profit. We are equally aggressively interested in doing work for children and families that strengthens them where they are, or guides them to lift themselves out of where they are (if ‘where they are’ happens to be changeable poverty, reversible despair, or illuminable lack of hope).

Why music:

Because music is the one thing any 2 people can have a favorable conversation about – an exciting conversation even. When I formed Songs From Above, and before then, I had always wanted to be part of the conversation – especially the conversation(s) where ideas are exchanged, and soon thereafter, action is taken on some of those ideas. - Yeah! J - that’s why music.

And also because… man, when’s the last time you went to a concert, and did not feel absolutely insanely happy, or inspired, or free?

SongsFromAbove: The time has come for us to demand more useful music...
We have previously worked on:
Kenya Stories, Africa Investment Horizon, and America's Hot Musician; they recently licensed our original music compositions.
